Title- Original One-Sheet Poster for 1950 MGM Movie The Skipper Surprised His Wife
History- This is an original (not a reprint) one-sheet movie poster from the 1950 MGM film The Skipper Surprised His Wife, a comedy film starring Robert Walker, Joan Leslie and Edward Arnold. The skipper, is played by Robert Walker whose wife (played by Joan Leslie) is incapacitated by a broken leg, forcing Walker to take over management of their home. A stickler for nautical discipline, Walker tries to run things "the Navy way," but this proves futile. Comedy ensues. The poster is numbered 50/274.
Robert Walker (1918-1951) was an American actor who started in youthful boy-next-door roles, often as a World War II soldier. One of these roles was opposite his first wife, Jennifer Jones, in the World War II epic Since You Went Away (1944). He also starred as the villain in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller Strangers on a Train (1951), which was released shortly before his premature death.
With the growth of at-home movie rooms the hobby of movie poster collecting has become a world-wide passion. Classic posters are the perfect accent for in-home theatres and are more appreciated as they are become harder to find. Posters of the era were to be used by theatres before, or while, a movie was playing at the local theatre. After that they were to be returned to the poster exchange or destroyed which means only a few posters would survive past the run of their movie.
Dimensions- This is called a one-sheet poster measuring 27" x 41" inches.
Condition- Excellent condition, folded, with a few small tears and pin holes.
